Webster County Board of Education Debates Decision to Cancel Classes - Thursday, February 09, 2012

WEBSTER COUNTY, KY (2/1/12) – At the end of a morethan three hour meeting of the Webster County Board of Education Monday night, board member Jeff Pettitexpressed his disappointment in the decision to cancel classes for Thursday and Friday because of the boys’basketball opportunity to participate in the state championship tournament.

 WEBSTER COUNTY, KY (12/28/11) – Just days before ascheduled hearing on a motion seeking to dismiss a lawsuit filed by the Webster County Board of Education againstWebster County Clerk Valerie Franklin Newell regarding the handling of documents related to a petition aimed atrecalling a school district construction tax, the Webster County School District has filed a new motion requesting “animmediate summary ruling.”

Nickel Tax Debate Continues in Webster County Circuit Court - Thursday, February 09, 2012

WEBSTER COUNTY, KY (1/25/12) – Following the latestmove by the Webster County Board of Education in January to “ratify” a motion supporting a previous action schoolofficials said they made at the direction of the board during a special called meeting on Nov. 3, attorneys representingthe Webster County Board of Education in its dispute with Webster County Clerk Valerie Franklin presented theboard’s action as cause for rejection of Newell’s motion to have the case dismissed.

WEBSTER COUNTY, KY (12/21/11) – After a review of theminutes for the Nov. 3 special called Webster County Board of Education meeting at which school district officialsreported the board directed a lawsuit be filed against Webster County Clerk Valerie Franklin Newell regarding herhandling of a petition filed to recall a so-called “nickel tax,” Webster County Attorney Clint Prow, who representsNewell on the county’s behalf, has filed a motion to have the case dismissed.
